Why Should Your Child Learn Coding With Minecraft?

    |

    What is Minecraft?

Picture this: Minecraft, a game where you’re the architect of your virtual world. It’s like having a treasure chest of special blocks – wood, stone, and more – to construct whatever your imagination can conjure.

But Minecraft isn’t just about fun and games; it’s a cool classroom in disguise. While playing, you pick up skills like problem-solving, creative designing, and even a bit of computer and math knowledge. It’s like attending a school that feels more like an adventure!

In Minecraft, you explore a world made up of tiny square blocks, like buildings with magical crystals. You get to create your unique places – think of it as a massive puzzle where you’re the mastermind. And the best part? You can team up with your friends, showcasing your fantastic creations and exploring together.

Playing Minecraft helps you get better at solving problems, making designs, and understanding computers and math. It’s not just a game anymore; it’s like a school where you can learn to code, make games, and work together with others. This guide is here to show how Minecraft is not just for fun but also a way to learn cool stuff.

How Coding and Minecraft are related?

If you’re six or older, you can dive into the world of Minecraft lessons. Learning is like playing a game, and in Minecraft, you can watch your creations come to life — it’s like having fun while you learn!

Building your world in Minecraft is like drawing on paper. Imagine drawing an apple tree on paper; it’s cool. Now, think about building that same apple tree using secret codes. The way you think about it is what makes drawing and coding so different, but both are a total blast!

What is the benefit of learning coding with Minecraft & not traditionally?

Emine Kutay & Diler Oner conducted a study that examined the role of Minecraft-based coding activities on the computational thinking (CT) of middle school students. They wanted to see if the kids learned computer ideas like loops, events, and how to test things.

They did this with 20 fifth-grade students who needed to learn more about computer stuff. These kids went to a school that didn’t teach them a lot about computers.

They played Minecraft and learned how to code for about 6 weeks. Then, the researchers checked what the kids did and how much they learned.

The kids got better at understanding computer ideas like doing things in order, making things happen when they should, and doing more than one thing at the same time. However, they needed some help with things like using variables and operators and making decisions in their code.

When the kids built things in Minecraft, they were pretty good at testing their creations and fixing problems, which is a good skill. But they should have used and mixed things more, which is also essential in coding.

So, Minecraft coding helped the kids learn some computer stuff, but they still need to work on a few things. Overall, it was a cool way to learn!

There are Multiple Ways To Learn Coding Through Minecraft –

    1. Minecraft: Education Edition
    2. Minecraft Hour of Code

Minecraft is one of the most popular games among kids, and Moonpreneur is now turning this fun gameplay into an opportunity to learn how to code. Minecraft Coding course will help kids learn the skill of coding the fastest and in the most fun way ever possible! Book a free class today!
