How to Become a Successful Child Blogger

Update: This article was last updated on 12th  April 2024 to reflect the accuracy and up-to-date information on the page.

Imagination. Creation. Reaction. And much more. Each one of them is vast, and one can come up with a wide range of topics by digging into each one meticulously. Those topics can be spun into interesting and intriguing blogs.  It all boils down to articulating your thoughts about the subject that interests you. In other words, blogging is about discovering your niche.   Anyone with a flair for writing and the ability to engage in wordplay can spin blogs like nobody’s business.  A blogger with the ability to let their thoughts flow freely in the form of words, make sense to the readers, and engage them till the end can nail it.  If your child has expressed a desire to write a blog of their own, encourage them and help them set up their blog website and become a successful child blogger. If you're wondering how to become a successful child blogger,  follow this article and by the end of it, you will have sufficient information to start it.

Let’s explore child blogging and unlock the secrets to a successful and enjoyable blogging experience!

    1. Minimum Age Requirement for Blogging

Do you know that there is a minimum age requirement to start a blog? Yes, there is an age cap.

According to the terms of service on WordPress.com, their services are not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in Europe). The same is the case with another popular blogging site Blogger.com. Fret not. With parental guidance, children can start early.

The world of technology is process-oriented, and so is blogging.

If you are wondering how to start a blog for your child or if you are a child who wishes to become a blogger in 2024, follow these steps.

    2. Category

First and foremost, you have to decide on the category. This is the most important part of starting a blog because it will answer any question. Therefore, it is suggested that you focus on something that interests the children because it will make it easier for them to pursue it for a longer period.

The top child bloggers specialize in the following:

    • Food
    • Education
    • Activities
    • Cartoons
    • Toys
    • Gadgets
    • Book reviews
    • Travel
    • Fashion
    • Board Game Reviews

    3. Decide the Niche

Microblog niche is recommended over multiple niches to win a loyal audience. Carving a niche is important, as the readers can relate to your blog while looking for information about that subject or topic.

For instance, if you are a book reviewer, readers would know where to find authentic information about the latest publication. Some child bloggers even team up with their parents to start a blog. ChildasticBooks, for instance, was started by mother-daughter duo Sam and Holly and they blogged away to glory by reviewing books.

To carve a niche, clarity is important. The best way to have clarity on an area of interest is by writing it down and fleshing it out. If you can answer the following questions, you are sorted.

    • Why are you starting a blog?
    • What will you write about?
    • Why would people visit your blog?
    • How will your readers gain from reading your blog?
    • Who will be your target audience?

    4. Decide on a Blogging Platform

The next step is finding the right platform. There are free-to-use blogging sites, and you can choose at your convenience. Some popular ones are:

    • WordPress

    • Blogger

    • Wix

    • Weebly

    • Kidblog

Once you decide on the platform, move on to the next step and find a domain name that should be quirky and easy to remember. Children should be able to type your blog name easily because an easy-to-remember and easy-to-type URL will drive traffic to your website.

    5. Select a Hosting Site

What is web hosting? A web host facilitates a website with space on a web server to store its files. Without web hosting, your websites and their components, code, images, etc., cannot be viewed online. There are millions of websites out there, and each of them is hosted on a server.

So, now you understand how important it is to choose hosting for your blog!

    6. Design

After choosing a reliable web hosting for your blog, it is time to design it. Most blogging sites come with pre-designed themes and offer plenty of designs. You can select the template as per the subject. Once that is in place, you are good to go.

    7. Inspirational Child Bloggers

Here are the top 5 kid bloggers who have opted to make an impact in the blogging world. Read their inspiring stories, and if you’ve ever wondered whether you should let your child write a blog, perhaps this will persuade you to reconsider. Perhaps it will encourage your child to begin writing and sharing your wonderful thoughts and imagination!

Holly Fratter and her mother, Sam, have created an amazing blog where they evaluate children’s books. We liked this site right away because it had a mother and daughter writing about books from distinct perspectives. Reading is a great and shared passion for them, so they wanted to share it with the rest of us.

It’s always inspiring to see how much young children like reading and forming critical opinions about what they’ve read!

If you’re a world traveler, you’ll love reading this blog. Alex Stringer, who is now thirteen years old, is the owner of Alex Know It All. She started her blog when she was just seven years old, and she wanted to share some of her experiences as a seven-year-old. Her family did a lot of traveling, so she wanted others to see the world through her eyes as she drove around in their old Skoda. Be on the lookout for some genuine travel adventures.

Marabird’s blog was started in 2013 by an 8-year-old girl from the United States named Mara. Mara brings consumers a great piece of American society as viewed through the perspective of an adolescent, in addition to being passionate about food, American history, and travel.

Most blog postings are brief and written in a journaling format. It’s fantastic to read it with your child because her stories encourage you to read more. In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, this inspiring young girl took it upon herself to raise awareness among her readers. She urged her readers to wear protective masks and stressed the need to look for ourselves and others in such situations.

Dara, aged sixteen, is the author of Naturalist Dara, a book about conservation and animals. Dara started his blog after his family relocated to Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, as a way to share his opinions with others. But, as he puts it, he wanted a notebook where he could keep track of all his days and experiences in one location.

Dara’s blog has received numerous accolades and honors, including The Wildlife Trust’s 2017 youth category for best blog and A Focus on Nature’s best blog of 2016.

We all enjoy watching and participating in sports, and we want to know everything there is to know about them. However, there is a snag. The most famous sports news websites, such as ESPN, are not suitable for children under the age of 13. Even if they can keep up with the news, most of the words, snarky remarks, and non-sports behavior are lost on them unless explained.

Kids require a dedicated sports online place where they may post news and opinions about major sporting events. That’s where Sports Illustrated Kids enters the picture. The website, which is primarily written by children, provides informative, inspirational, fun, and engaging sports news, allowing children to follow sports in the way they want to read about them.

    Pros & Cons of Blogging

It’s important to understand the interests and passions of your child at an early stage. Those who are going to start their blog should be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of blogging. Let’s take a look at it.

Pros: Blogging is about writing on a particular subject or area of interest. And writing has many benefits. Writing skills come with long-term benefits; they enhance children’s analytical and comprehensive skills.

Writing also helps in organizing and articulating thought processes. For Warren Buffett, a successful investor, and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, writing is a key way of refining his thoughts. Quite true! Encourage your child to blog because it will help your child as an individual.

Cons:  Blogging has a lot of benefits, but it is a fact that internet exposure puts children at various risks. Countless threats are lurking online that can harm impressionable minds.

Therefore, parents should caution their children about online threats by sensitizing them about the repercussions of sharing too much information, conversing with strangers, clicking random links, etc., without affecting their enthusiasm.

    In a nutshell

There are two sides to every story. Blogging is exciting, but it comes with risks. Therefore, combine independence to express freely with preventive vigilance to let your kids start on the right foot. So, what are you waiting for? It is time to hit the road.

As you can see, several parents are (or were) actively involved in their children’s blog writing. As a result, parents and their children bloggers can spend precious time working on a project that benefits both of them.

Children who blog gain various abilities that are essential in today’s environment. Writing, reporting, observing, denoting, tenacity and perseverance, and having an analytical view of the world around oneself are examples of these skills.

Introducing your child to these child bloggers is a great opportunity for you and your youngster to bond over a shared activity. Blogging will teach children to express themselves and their perceptions of the world around them. This is undoubtedly one of the best methods for your child to spend free time while allowing you to participate!

To all the children out there, what are your thoughts on this? Are you planning to start your blog in 2024? Please share your views in the comment section.

When I was 15, I wrote my first blog on “How to Bake a Pineapple Cake”. After that I wrote plenty of others as well in the same niche, but after a few months I lost my interest. Can you tell some facts about how to stay focussed and motivated all the way up.
